Disaster Response Training 2022
Disasters are unpredictable, but help shouldn't be. United Way for Greater Austin's 2-1-1 helpline supports Texans during some of their most challenging times.
United Way for Greater Austin is looking for volunteers to train as disaster responders to support the 2-1-1 helpline during peak hurricane season: August through October. Volunteers should have basic computer knowledge, be able to answer calls for two or more two-hour shifts, and have a desire to make an impact.
Sign up for one of two virtual trainings, and we'll send you a ZOOM link before your session.
Training session 1
July 14 from 11:30am - 12:30pm
Training Session 2
July 21 from 11:30am - 12:30pm
Sessions will cover:
- An overview of 2-1-1 and the role volunteers take in responding to disasters in Texas
- Examples of calls we received during past hurricane disasters
- Training on how to take and respond to a call during a disaster using our software system
- Plenty of time for Q&A
Once you are trained, we may reach out to you over the next year to virtually assist Texans through the 2-1-1 helpline when disasters hit.
Thank you to our sponsors, H-E-B and Texas Gas Service for making volunteer opportunities like this possible!
