Natural Disaster Response Training 2021
Looking for a hands-on way to help make a difference? Be a virtual volunteer with our 2-1-1 call for help line in the event of a natural disaster – like a hurricane, flood, or fire – when requests for support are highest throughout Texas.
United Way for Greater Austin is offering a free training for people interested in volunteering to answer calls for two or more 2-hour shifts between August and October, peak hurricane season for Texas. Volunteers must have basic computer and technology skills and a desire to help others.
We're hosting three virtual training sessions on July 9 and 23, from 10:30 - 11:30 am and August 5 from 2:30 - 3:30 pm. Register for your preferred time and date below, then we'll send you a ZOOM link before your session.
We'll cover:
-An overview of 2-1-1 and the history of the critical role we play in responding to disasters in Central Texas
-Examples of calls we received during hurricane Harvey
-A training on how to take and respond to a call during a disaster using our referral software/system
-Time for Q&A
After you have completed your training, you may be called upon over the next year to volunteer virtually with our 2-1-1 call for help line team to respond to disaster response needs as they arise in Central Texas. Thank you to our sponsors, Farmers Insurance® , Atlassian Foundation, and Netspend.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
