Austinites, MoveOutATX needs your help! Volunteer with us in one of two ways:
- Lend a hand at the Free Furniture Market by guiding traffic flow and helping patrons take free, gently-used furniture! Click here for more details.
- Or help accept gently-used items, such as furniture, cleaning supplies, clothing and more to be donated to 7 participating reuse organizations. Click here for more details.
Shifts last 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. is preferred (not required). As a thank you, MoveOutATX will provide volunteers with cool-it towels and discounts to local eateries. Water refills and snacks will be available at the check-in headquarters locations. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring any accepted items to donate along with them! However, only items at the Free Furniture Market can be taken for free. Items at the donation stations are for participating reuse organizations.
Background: MoveOutATX is a community effort to keep good stuff out of the landfill during the university move-out season. To date, the program kept 62 school busses of material out of landfills! We hope to keep up that trend, but we can't do it without you! This year, MoveOutATX is piloting a Free Furniture Market to allow Austinites to pick up anything they want. MoveOutATX is facilitated by the City of Austin in partnership with the UT Office of Sustainability and the UT Off-Campus Initiative.
