Austin Partners In Education Mentors Needed!
APIE mentors work one-on-one with Austin students during the school day. They help students improve their social and study skills, strengthen their communication skills, and build self-confidence. They inspire children to develop new interests, explore career possibilities, and achieve their personal and academic goals. Mentoring opportunities are available for students in any school and any grade within Austin ISD.
APIE mentors should be:
- positive, caring adults
- able to commit to an hour a week to meet with student consistently throughout the school year
- good listeners
- able to adhere to program requirements
- non-judgemental and supportive
- willing to submit to a background check
- able to participate in online and in-person training
APIE Mentors receive:
- initial training on the role of the mentor
- introduction to supportive strategies to use with students in building effective mentoring relationships
- support from a campus-based Mentor Coordinator
